AppleInsider | Time Magazine ranks Motorola Droid above Apple iPhone for 2009
So, the Droid gets the #1 slot by Time… but it’s not like they are business partners with Verizon or anything , so at least it seems it must be just honest journalism. Oh (Dead Link: wait)…
Actually, it doesn’t annoy me that the iPhone 3GS was fourth on the list – it is basically just a sped up version of the original and 3G iPhone. It’s a great product, and a worthy successor to the iPhone 3G, but the real innovation comes from the many apps on the app store and, of course, Apple’s original iPhone from 2007.

Yet another one of my Uncle’s games has been ported to the iPhone. (Dead Link: Retro Shoot) is available for free on the App Store now. I wasn’t involved with this one, but it is very fun. Go check it out now!

Command Line Kung Fu: Episode #45: Removing Empty Directories
Command Line Kung Fu: Episode #45: Removing Empty Directories
I needed to remove empty directories and managed to run across this. If you are on a recent Unix (MacOS X included) or Linux box, apparently it’s as easy as:
$ find . -type d -empty -delete
Perfect. Exactly what I needed.

Just went to Google and I noticed that they’ve really simplified what you see on their homepage, as if that was possible. When you first go to google.com, you just see the Google logo, the search box, the search button and the I’m Feeling Lucky button. Nothing else. That would be about the most minimalist that you can get google.com down to without effecting functionality.
Amazingly enough, this webpage would look right at home in the Internet of 1994. There is nothing in this presentation that a browser of that era couldn’t render, other than the logo perhaps. From there, everyone decided to just pile on more and more until you get something that looks like CNN or Yahoo today. But not Google. They’ve took a look at their already sparse webpage and said we need to remove more.

It’s the little things that count
I made the decision to go with Mercurial for version control on my home machines a while ago and I’ve generally been very pleased it. It came down to Mercurial or git, both of which are very capable. But today I was reminded of one of the reasons I went with Mercurial instead of git:
$ git stat
git: 'stat' is not a git-command. See 'git --help'.
Did you mean this?
status
Here is a case where git knows what I was trying to do, and even told me, but instead of just doing what I asked, it instead tries to change my behavior. Here is how Mercurial handles it:

Potential Gotcha in Xcode
After upgrading to the iMac the other day, I quickly wanted to see if there was an improvement in build times with Xcode. Well, it was more of that I wanted to see how much of an improvement there was – of course there was going to be an improvement. I was going from a 2GHz C2D laptop to a 2.66GHz Core i5 Quad desktop. That should be a massive improvement.
