Just went to Google and I noticed that they’ve really simplified what you see on their homepage, as if that was possible. When you first go to google.com, you just see the Google logo, the search box, the search button and the I’m Feeling Lucky button. Nothing else. That would be about the most minimalist that you can get google.com down to without effecting functionality.
Amazingly enough, this webpage would look right at home in the Internet of 1994. There is nothing in this presentation that a browser of that era couldn’t render, other than the logo perhaps. From there, everyone decided to just pile on more and more until you get something that looks like CNN or Yahoo today. But not Google. They’ve took a look at their already sparse webpage and said we need to remove more.
Good job, Google.
