XP 1, Vista 0
I received a free copy of Windows Vista Ultimate (Retail Version) last week and I decided to actually see what it was like. I had heard the nightmares about User Access Control (aka, UAC), heard about the slowdowns with Glass, the incompatibilities, and so on. But, until I had tried it firsthand, it was hard to know what was true and what was just the anti-Microsoft bias of people on the web. Well, after trying Vista for a few days, I have to say most of it is true.

Flood Of DS Games
Well, I got back from Toys R Us this morning where I happily took advantage of their buy two get one free deal on DS games. I was hoping to score a copy of Tetris DS, but the cashier said she had sold the last copy minutes before. But, I did manage to get the following games:
- Mario Kart DS
- Nintendo DS Browser
- Planet Puzzle League
- Pokémon Diamond
- Trace Memory
- True Swing Golf
I also picked up Brain Buster Puzzle Pak at GameStop while I was at it. I’ve been looking forward to a few of these games – Planet Puzzle League and Pokémon Diamond (thanks Tycho and Gabe for getting me interested in that one) are at the top of the list. I also expect Mario Kart DS to get a lot of play time, especially since my son also has a copy of that as well. Trace Memory and True Swing Golf were both $10 each, but after the discount, they were effectively $6.66 each.

Battery Tid-Bits
So, I spent some of my lunch hour with a few friends over at the Apple Store today. Turns out that my friend Evan was having some battery issues with his shiny MacBook C2D. It would randomly shutdown, even though the power indicator showed around 30% full. While trying to look into things, he noticed that that in System Profiler, the battery info seemed a bit odd:

Sorry about the lack of posts
I’ve been busy lately, and haven’t had much time to post. I’ve been working on a few things, and I hope to be able to post them soon. Also, I’ve been able to dig up some more code from a few machines around the house. I have some more drives to look at, but I’ll probably have to write some code to get the data off it (of course, that isn’t a bad thing :D

No Bingo!
Has anyone else been watching ABC’s new show, National Bingo Night? It’s just your typical TV game show – but you get to play along at home as well by going to ABC’s website and printing a set of 3 bingo cards. It’s actually quite fun, but as usual with bingo, I haven’t won anything yet.

Waiting Is The Hardest Part...
Not much really going on lately. Just waiting for my copy of Ouendan 2 to ship – amazing to how in less than one year I’ve gone from never heard about Ouendan to having played and beaten both Elite Beat Agents and Ouendan and now anxiously awaiting the sequel.
For those of you not familiar with either EBA or Ouendan, I would highly recommend checking them out. If you happen to be in the US, I believe that you can still try out EBA at the DS Download Stations. If not, you can get a new copy for around $30 or less.

Picross DS Coming To The US?
The Internets are rumbling about a possible US version of Picross DS. GameStop has put up a rather generic looking game page that seems to be the right game. And even GameFAQs has added a US release date to it’s game data page. The only place where we’re not seeing anything is from NOA.
It sure would be nice if it’s true – I think Picross should get another shot at glory here in the US. Everyone has now been introduced to Sudoku, and IMO, Picross is just as good or better.

Minor iTunes Rant
To anyone who is putting in CD track names in iTunes (and maybe anything else that uses CDDB) – when you have a greatest hits album for a particular artist, the Is A Compilation checkbox should only be used if there is more than one artist. Otherwise, it’s not a compilation.
Yes – I realize that a greatest hits compilation would seem to be a compilation by it’s very name. But, as far as iTunes is concerned, it really isn’t. The compilation flag is used to indicate that there is more than one artist on the disc.

Even More Free Code!
I did some hard drive cleanup over the weekend, and I found some more code to post up – 3 small GBA projects, a really old piece of classic MacOS code as well, and a PalmOS app that I actually sold as shareware at one point. I hope to have even more code as I keep digging through old hard drives and CDRs. In the meantime, go over to the code section and enjoy.

Another Day, Another Picross DS Update
Looks like the Touch Generations! site for Picross DS is up now. It has some screenshots, which aren’t too different from the JP version. But it’s kinda neat to see things in english now – “You mean that’s what that says?” :)
Hopefully NOA will see us worthy of a release over here, but considering their past success with Picross (admittedly that was over 12 years ago), they might be a bit gun-shy on bringing it over here.
