3G iPhone -- finally
In case you live in a cave or for some odd reason only get your tech news from my blog (hint, there are much, much better sources of news), Apple finally updated the iPhone today with 3G support and a GPS. And they lowered the price as well – $199 for the 8GB model, $299 for the 16GB model. Apple is going to sell a ton of these this year – way more than the goal of 10 million.

New iPhone Competitor *YAWN*
It looks like Nokia is working on a new competitor to the iPhone called the Tube. The article considers it an iPhone killer. But that’s probably just wishful thinking.

Someone really gets it
Thanks to Erica over at TUAW, I ran into this new package manager for the iPhone and iPod touch that’s based on Debian’s APT. Finally, someone gets that the iPhone can be just as much of a Unix workstation as other devices. Compared to the machines I was using back in 1995, the iPhone is actually more powerful than some of them. So why not have real tools installed on them instead of really buggy fakes? Here’s hoping that this new open standard catches on and that Installer.app and especially the BSD subsystem package become relics of the past.

What is the problem with a changelist, Apple?
Apple released the 1.1.4 update for both the iPhone (163MB) and the iPod touch (166MB) today. Unfortunately, they only listed the changes as “Bug Fixes”. Less than helpful.

Update on Movie Playback on the iPhone/iPod touch
The other day, I posted up some code for playing back a movie on the iPhone and iPod touch using the MoviePlayerUI class. In that post, I mentioned that I couldn’t get Celestial and UIKit to play nice with each other, and that was the reason that I ended up using the MoviePlayerUI framework instead. Well, I did some more sleuthing tonight, and I was successfully able to get Celestial and UIKit to be friends again.

Movie Playback on the iPhone/iPod touch
For a project I’ve been working on over the past few months, I needed to be able to playback video on the iPhone. What seemed like an easy task ended up taking much longer than I cared for because of lack of documentation about this on the web. So, this post will hopefully help others out in the same situation.

More on the iPod touch
So, on Friday, I posted that I had picked up a new iPod touch. I’ve been able to spend a little more time with it now over the weekend, and I thought I might post up a few things about it.

New iPod touch
Just picked up a 16GB iPod touch today at the Apple Store. Quite a nice little package, though it does leave me wanting a little more. I’ve just started playing with it, so I can’t comment too much. I will say that syncing 12GB of music to it takes a bit too long for my taste. But, that shouldn’t be a problem going forward.
I plan to try jailbreaking it sometime over the weekend, and see how many of the iPhone apps work on it. I’ll post up another update when I find out more.

Picross DS Out In The US
Just a quick little post – Picross DS is officially out today (July 30th) in the US. And it has a suggested retail price of just $20.
In case you haven’t seen my other posts on Picross DS, I highly recommend this title. And at $20, it’s a steal.

Yes, I'm Still Alive
Things seem to slow down a bit over the summer, so it might seem like I’ve dropped off the face of the earth – but, trust me, I’m still here.
I’m making some minor changes to the blog here and there. The biggest of the minor changes is the look of it. I decided to try a different theme for a while. Also, I’ve added a few of my favorite games ranking buttons for Cyberscore to the sidebar. As you can see, I really dig OTO/EBA/OTO 2 for the DS.
